Welcome to the Pet Connection website. Donna Skinsley is an animal behaviourist and training consultant specialising in canine, equine and feline cases. She is academically qualified, professionally registered and has over 16 years practical experience in the field. She offers a professional and comprehensive, reward–based, behavioural referral and training service across the south of England based from Three Legged Cross in Dorset, near Ringwood. In particular she covers Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Somerset, Berkshire, and Gloucestershire. Having just re-located back to Dorset from Salisbury in Wiltshire, she continues to run clinics and home visits in and around that area on a weekly basis. She also offers consultations in Dorset for clients who reside outside these counties.
As an animal behaviourist and training consultant, Donna is a big believer that a trainer’s own animals speak volumes and hence her own animals form some of her best adverts for her work. She uses them regularly when demonstrating reward-based methods to clients and the general public at conferences, agricultural shows and such like, demonstrating at Crufts for six years. The Training Videos section has examples of Donna working her own animals.
Donna is proud of the fact that the majority of her clientele come through Veterinary referral, animal welfare charities, local councils, independent adoption and fostering agencies or word of mouth recommendations from those with knowledge of the results she can achieve. Behavioural cases will only be taken on referral from a veterinary surgeon. This can be achieved in one of two ways: either a veterinary surgeon can refer the case direct or Donna will contact your veterinary practice and seek a referral on your behalf.
No dog, horse or cat is too young or too old. They are learning all their lives.
What they learn is down to you!
Essentially Donna believes that training should be fun for both you and your pet. That way you are much more likely to do more of it. Just like people, animals learn through getting them motivated to want to do what you want, not because they have to but because they want to. Think about when you have been nagged or forced into doing something as opposed to something you’ve enjoyed learning because you wanted to. We need to care about how we achieve our goals and understand the emotion that lies behind it.
Within this site you should be able to find all the information you need about the services on offer to help you get the relationship you really want with your pet. You will also find more videos like the ones below which demonstrate the results you can get using the methods Donna uses. Here Donna is demonstrating in two different environments with her Dobermann and horse. If you have any questions or wish Donna to help you then please contact her.
